Jan 2010 | Capital Acquisitions Tax Thresholds have decreased again

The Capital Acquisitions Tax thresholds, which determine the extent of the tax free element of a gift or an inheritance, have again decreased for the calendar year 2010 by virtue of deflation.  The details of these are set out in the attached link to the Revenue's website.

The thresholds had, for the first time in the history of the tax, decreased under Budget 2008 to bring them back to c.2002 levels. They are adjusted annually with effect from 1 January each year by the Consumer Price Index which decreased this year.
